About the Foundation
In 1985, a group of concerned local individuals formed the J. J. Collett Foundation. It was the goal of this foundation to ensure the protection of the area’s natural diversity and its continued use for environmental education. Grants from the Sport, Recreation, Parks and Wildlife Foundation and the Alberta Lottery Fund have allowed the foundation to construct on-site facilities such as, outhouses, parking lots, as well as the benches and gazebos. The foundation is also responsible for the upkeep of these facilities and resolving conflicts between different users. The foundation shares administrative responsibility for the natural area with both the Protected Areas Division of Alberta Community Development, and the Public Lands Division of Alberta Sustainable Resource Development.
